Considered to be the single most important aircraft in the history of air transportation, the DC-3 first flew in 1935. Douglas Aircraft built it as a replacement for the smaller DC-2. Its 180 MPH cruising speed made it the fastest of its day, and carried 11 more passengers than the Boeing 247. By 1938, 80 percent of all American commercial airline traffic was carried on DC-3’s. During World War 2, the military conversion of the DC-3, the C-47 was used by the thousands in every theatre of the war. After the war, many of the surplus C-47’s were converted back to civilian service.

Beautiful large balsa wood airplane models-from the famous Stearman PT-17 trainer to the history making Spirit of St. Louis. Our latest release the Douglas DC-3. This model can also be built as a C-47; decals and instructions to build either model are included. Each model is a small but faithful replica of an airplane widely known for deeds in wartime or, like the Cessna Skyhawk, for its present day popularity. Here is toy airplane model building worthy of the time and effort-you would be hard pressed to find a finer kit available. The Camel, Skyhawk, PT-17 and Spirit of St. Louis are designed for .049 to .15 U-Control, .049 gas and rubber powered free flight. The B-25 is for .020 to .049 U-Control or display. The historic DC-3 is designed to be built as a Build 'n Show display model. Kits contain best quality materials and instructions that have made Guillow balsa airplane kits the "Best in Balsa". Note: The fuselages of the Camel, PT-17, Spirit of St. Louis and Skyhawk are large enough to take simple R/C equipment - NO diagrams or instructions included or available. For ages 14 and up.
